Silence

There's a silence when I open the door
In the cold winter evening
I look out over the end of another day
And shiver in the cold breeze

No jackets will keep me warm
This heart seems frozen stiff
I turn and look into the empty house
Don't know how much longer I'll live like this

The dogs are barking next door
And I'm lying awake again
So many months have passed
And the evenings are still darker than most

My memory serves a little too well
I remember every word and thing
The silence in my soul grows deeper
Than the ocean in which I'm sinking
